Pinky, The Fall Of

29 December 2005

Recently I was involved in a skiing accident. A high speed crash unlike no other to this day. As I fond my self tumbling, I managed to hit the "funny bone" of my right arm on my ski that had released from my boot. When the two made contact a sharp Intense pain traveled through my arm followed by a numbing/tingling sensation.

This was the worst "funny bone" incident I've ever had and hope to ever have. Fortunately for me the numbing pain did not spread through my body so I stood up and began to retrieve my ski. As I reached for it I found that my hand was rendered useless, almost paralyzed. As the pain subsided the feeling and motion came back through my arms and fingers, except for one. My pinky finger on my right hand was struggling to maintain its functionality. It no longer felt pain and it wasn't broken, but it no longer performed like it should.

To this day (four days later) my pinky is still struggling. I noticed while scratching my left hand that it more or less just drags along, with little functionality. When I ride my bike, it doesn't seem to wrap around the grip. It just hangs. I'm now realizing the importance of the pinky finger. I'm hesitant to play on the monkey bars any more, for fear that I just wont be able to hang on.

Thankfully my wife is an Occupational Therapist and will be able to prescribe some rehabilitation treatment, but so far the future is looking grim. No progress has been made yet, but please stay tuned for more information about the pinky finger of my right hand.
Thank you-

The Reason Why

27 December 2005

Why do cyclists shave their legs? Some contend that hairless legs facilitate healing after a wipeout-- dirt is more prone to sticking inside a scratch on a hairy leg than a hairless one. But realistically, the urge to shave stems mostly from sex appeal. With colorful, shiny, skin-tight clothes, a tricked-out bike, a helmet, and alien-bug-like shades, shaving adds to the sexy-cyborg air of the serious cyclist."
Some more benefits and reasons why:
Healing
Every cyclist will eventually experience this "joy" of cycling after a nasty fall. The presence of hair on the legs makes cleaning the wound more difficult. It can also increase the chances of infection.

Massage
Many cyclists are found of massage. Massage is reportedly less painful for those without leg hair and easier to perform, though we all know men and women who don't shave their legs and still receive massages.

Tradition
For years cyclists have simply shaved their legs.

Thank you to all

10 December 2005

Yesterday Dec. 9th happened to be my birthday. It was an exceptional day to say the least as I was bombarded with phone calls, emails and text messages from friends and family members. If only you could have been in my shoes you would realize how wonderful my friends and family are. My wife, parents, brother, sisters, nephews and niece all made a special effort to wish me a good day. I also received an email from the drivers of Grave Digger (the monster truck) wishing me a happy birthday.

Thank you very much to all of you who helped make the day special. Your thoughts are much appreciated and will be remembered always.

Late Nights At School

02 December 2005

As a design student I often times find my self working on projects during all hours of the day. For example: My good friends Chuck and Jasson and I are still at school working away, it's now 3:00 am. The best part about the late night design sessions here at school is the flack we receive from the janitors. They're not always pleased that we're in the building working but on the other hand we're not always pleased that they're in the building. I would like to say thanks though because they empty the garbage cans and keep the rest of the building in fairly good condition. Being a janitor in the art building is not an easy job... Most of your evening is spent contemplating whether or not to throw that pile of who knows what away. Is it a students project or is it garbage? Hats off to the janitors and hats off to us for working diligently through the night. Hats off to anyone who read this. Thanks
