I realize that iPods are fantastic, and that they should almost always accompany you where ever you go... But who wants to expose theirs to this type of torture? Don't you think that this sort of thing is a crime against good design. How do you feel?

Photos tell it all
30 August 2006
Things are really busy lately.
Working long hours but really enjoying it. Building a
website for my sister, editing some video for my father-in-law and best of all... hanging out with Shan. So with that in mind, here is my photo post.
Shannon and I took on the yard last weekend. Shannon took it to the tree and made things look FANTASTIC.

Neighbor kids were messing with Zipper

so Zipper took his business to the tree

Shannon bought us a "new" old table...

So we went to Pier1 and bought a "new" new rug to go with it. Zipper loves it

My garden is SOLID GOLD... I have pumpkins growing on the fence

Traffic sucks, so I try to ride my bike to work. Kaysville to SLC and back evey day...maybe someday I'll be fit.

When I do drive, I look for cool shots like this

Thanks and good day

This may be long
23 August 2006
Haven't posted for a while, so this may or may not be long.. I have a lot to write about but we'll just see how things play out.
First off, I'd like to congratulate
Ryan and Carly Blaney, they just had a beautiful baby boy... He's Solid Gold. I took some photos of the happy new parents and their little bundle of joy, but for privacy sake I’m not going to show him off. Instead, you get a photo of a sweet poster on display at the hospital. It looks a lot like Ryan so I figured it would do for now.

Things have been a bit busy lately with the new job, and lots of visits with friends. I was planning on some major yard work last weekend but instead I raced the Xterra at snowbasin. I was part of a relay team and we stomped it. our swimmer was amazing. she started two min. behind the pro men and women and was actually one of the first few ladies out of the water. I held together a decent ride. four min. off the fastest pro. I know I can do better but i'm just not too sure about my racing game lately. I think I was luck enough to have one good weekend this season and a semi good sort track in Aspen. Oh well. Lots of fun, lots of fun.
Well into the third week with
R&R and I'm loving it. A real professional design firm with some fantastic people to work with and learn from and they have a shower... that makes comuting to work on the bicycle even better. Solid Gold.
Went to dinner tonight with my good friend
Marc and his wife
Susan, my sister
Kady and her friend Matt (sorry no link here) We ate at one of my favorite spots.
Cucina. I found an amazing after lunch or dinner treat
Ritter SPORT Alpine Milk Chocolate. This is what all professional athletes eat. it boosts your red blood cell count just like EPO, and the only thing they find in the drug test is smooth, creamy alpine chocolate.
Well, that's about all I want to writ for now... Until next time

Friday Night Crit
17 August 2006
I'm a little upset right now... The Bikers Edge crit that was to be held on Friday night has been canceled. The reason why: The race promoters (Xterra people) thought that because there was only 15 riders pre-registered, that no one would show up and it would be a big waste of their money. HELLO! it's a crit. It's on Friday night, and there's $5,000 up for grabs... What are they thinking.

hit by a truck
16 August 2006
yep, I was commuting to work today and wouldn't you know that some idiot in a Chevy avalanche (which, in my opinion are worse than hummers) pulled out of a parking lot without looking and there I was. Luckily I was able to use my mad skills.. I taped the brakes and swerved to avoid t-boning the truck, only hip-check his bumper. I hit pretty hard but it actually sounded worse than it was. The buckle from my messenger bag hit the bumper as well and made a rather loud noise. Hopefully it left a nice reminder of what an idiot driver he was. I came away with a bruised hip (nothing major) so I decided not to pull out the Tony Danza and show him "who's the boss" + I just wanted to ride my bike to work.
This is what the road looks like when you drive

This is what the road looks like when you ride your bike. (just min. before the idiot and I met up)

sorry about the bad photos. using the camera phone is really a drag.
P.S. what's with old fast guys that think they can sneak up behind you and suck your wheel for a few miles. I have no problem pulling you along but when you don't even say hello... I think you have a problem.

A little late, Aspen up-date
15 August 2006
We experienced a little of everything... except ice cream. Early friday morning we boarded our speedy ride to Aspen. Wheels up just after 8 am and checked in to the weekend's racing compound around 11:30 am. Beautiful. Not much on the schedule for friday... just some time to ride a lap on the course and watch the semi-pro race. the Utah riders, Brandon Firth, Ty Hansen, Ross, Taylor Foss, and Jake Pantone all represented really well. (I think Jake dropped out, be he did make a solid effort) Meanwhile, back in Utah, some local riders were trying hard to represent in the Tour of Utah. Sat. rolled around and after a good nights rest, I thought I'd be rippin the cross country race. With just over 85 riders on the line I found myself on the first lap sitting mid pack but feeling pretty good. I started the second (and last) lap with a few cramps in the legs. I knew I needed to consume some liquids so I took two bottles in the feed zone and finished them by the top of the climb, where I took a third to finish the race on. By this time I wasn't feeling real crisp so I eased my efforts on the decent knowing that I still had a long way to go. Basically, I never really recovered and continued to loose ground. I finished somewhere in the 50's. Not my best effort.
That evening, Shannon, Gary, Brandon, Ryan and I took a trip back to the venue to watch some mountain cross action. My father-in-law hasn't been to many cycling events, and after my less than stellar performance in the XC, I thought he'd like to see something a little more entertaining. And it was. Jumps, crashes, fights and one to the hospital, my father-in-law walked away with a smile on his face.
Sunday is short track day: I didn't expect much today since I was pretty blown from yesterday. But I really enjoyed the course because it was a bit longer than most and had a lot more climbing. + we got to ride a section of the dual slalom course that had some rollers. (more on that later) The race went off really well. I ended up feeling pretty good and actually wished I would have pushed it a bit harder. I was somewhere in the 20's and was really happy about that.
It's now tuesday and life is in full swing once again. The racing season is winding down, so it's time to hit up some good trails for fun... not training. and play some soccer.

Kuhl Riders
11 August 2006
Got up ealy this morning and dawned a Castelli team kit of Kuhl Clothing company. Our mission: A little bootleg marketing in down town SLC. As hundreds of outdoor enthusists made their way to the convention center, they all found it easy to check out a pack of Kuhl riders parading the streets.

Brian Head Nationals
07 August 2006
Our weekend started off thursday afternoon as it took us about 2 hours to pack up and go. As you may have read we had some problems locating a Walmart for Ryan, and as it turns out... there is a Walmart in Payson. Thanks to those who commented with directions. I'll be sure to find it next time.
We made it to Brian Head and settled in to our weekend racing compound condo. I was happy to find some sweet lepard print sheets and velvet wall art in my room. Friday was wet and rainy in the morning but cleared up nice for the Semi-pro race. The course was a bit saturated but they (Brandon, Jake, Qunin, Ty, Chad,... did I leave anyone out?) handled it fine.
Sat was even better with lots of sunshine and warmer temps. The Pro mens field started off at what I though was a pretty comfortable pace. I was actually near the front and feeling fine... until, I straight out, blew up. I'm not exactly sure why, but it happens from time to time and it sucks. I now found my self, struggling to stay with the tail end of the group but slowly feeling better. By the time I felt like I was recovering I blew up in a different way. My rear tire happened to be in the right place at the right time. If found a nice rock and went flat.
I had a nice conversation with Chris Shepard (Pro cyclist busted for performance enhancing drugs) He was out enjoying some good trails while watching us suffer at 11,000 feet. I fixed my flat and was on my way... Later in the race my luck was running even deeper when my tire blew again. I was out. Kevin Day: DNF
Hoping for better luck and better legs I gave another shot in the Short Track. I felt pretty good and was with a fast group containing some of Utah's finest... BZ and Shannon B. I decided to make a move and when rounding one of the corners I caught my bar on one of the course marking poles. I went down. Bad call, Bad timing, Bad move.
Check out some photos
HERESo next weekend it's on to Aspen for the National Finals. We’ll see how my skills pay off, and hopefully I won't blow it again.
Congrats to Ryan Blaney for a rippin second place in the Expert 25-29 class
Cris Fox for a big W in the 30-39 class
Alex Grant, Eric Jones, Thomas Spannering, Shannon Boffelli for their work in the Pro Mens field
Ty Hansen, Jake Pantone, Quin Bingham, Chad W. Brandon Firth for their work in the Semi-Pro mens field.
And Brian Tolbert for only using one gear the entire race.

Back at home
As soon as we arrived in Brian Head, we realized that our cell service/wireless internet was no longer available. With that in mind I have a lot to catch up on and some great photos to share. I'll try to catch up with things tonight, so stay tuned...

I'm spent
03 August 2006
Just outside of Beaver Utah. The tempers in the car have simmered a bit. we never mad it to walmart for Ryan, but the hot n ready pizza and crazy bread was just enough to keep us satisfied. In fact, we're all pretty spent from the feast.

"There is no Walmart in Payson"
This entry marks the first of many to come.. I'm in the car driving through Payson Utah looking for a Walmart so Ryan can get some beef Jerkey. We are finding out that there is no walmart in payson... and if you know me, you'll know that i'm extremely happy about that.
We settled for some Hot N Ready Pizzas and crazy bread from Little Ceasars.
Stay tuned for more action as we make our way to Brian Head, for a weekend of mountain bike racing.
p.s. i miss you shannon

My dear wife
01 August 2006

Often times I wonder where I would be in this world without Shan. Probably far from the fortunate and wonderful life I'm living now. I also wonder where would she be without me. Probably somewhere really nice, where she would never have to spend her entire day off at a bike race handing me bottles...
Shan and I are great for each other. The reason I say this is because of an event that happened last night, that made us both laugh out loud for quite some time.
She was in the kitchen preparing her meals for the next day when she asked... Is an egg a vegetable? For a brief moment I was silent, wondering, did she really say that? Without laughing I explained to here the properties of an egg (which she does know) and made it clear that an egg was not a vegetable. I then told her that if she likes eggs so much that maybe next year we could plant a few in the garden, or try growing some on our tree.
We all have those moments when we ask silly questions... I have them more often than not and thankfully, Shan is always kind enough not to make fun of me too much.
