BLUE SKYS

31 January 2007

I took a walk through the avenues today during lunch. It was nice to get out in the sun and see some blue sky. We live in an area that just so happens to have some poor air duing the winter months. In the past I've found it a bit easyer to stay in the mountains, above the crappy air but this season I find my self working quite a bit and sitting around on the weekend waiting for people to come buy my car.

Leaving the city today I saw PRIMETIME shredd'n through traffic on the wrong side of the road. He knows how to get it done. As for me, I just got back from having my hair organized (most people call it a hair cut) and now i'm going to spend some time on the rollers, stay up late and work on a few design projects, then do it all again tomorrow.

MORE FOOTBALLTALK

29 January 2007

I was just involved in what seemed to be a 45 min. "footballtalk" conversation, when in reality it was only about 10. I use the word involved lightly because it mostly refers to the space I occupied in the room and the visual that my yellow shirt created for those who we're heavily involved could glance at from time to time. WOW!

A RIVETING DAY

28 January 2007

Yesterday was not what I expected but there we're a few good events that made it worth it.

I received a call Friday night from a family in Logan. they we're interested in my Subaru and wanted to come take it for a drive on Sat. That pretty much blew the plans I had to go snowmobiling with some friends, so a good old bike ride would be back on the schedule. They said they'd stop by about 11 so I spent the morning making sure the car was clean and ready to sell. 11'oclock came and went and still no word. Shan was in Park City training with the NAC (National Ability Center) on the slopes, enjoying the warm sunshine and the snow under her feet. (after 11 hours though, she was beat and ready to come home. I don't blame her)

I killed some time kicking the soccer ball around the house and finally at about 1:30 I got a call. The family was in Ogden and on their way. To make a long story short, they bought the car and I got what I feel is a pretty fair price.

Then the girl scouts came by selling cookies. How can you refuse Think Mints and those peanut butter/carmel wafers covered in chocolate. I happily submitted my order and found out the the cookies wont be here until March. That's like a whole month and a few days away.

By the time all this was over, the temperature was dropping and riding my bike was looking less and less tempting. I decided to put in some more time on the rollers and catch up on LOST. Thanks to marcfolio for hooking me up. I should be caught up by the time the new episodes of season 3 start. But as it usually goes I'll find better things to do with my time, like sit in front of the computer, than watch TV.

Something very interesting: John Dilworth, who is a part of North Temple, directed me to something very cool that Humanized worked up.

TGI FRIDAY

26 January 2007

It's been a nice day today. Our Production Manager arranged a movie day complete with a movie, treats, drinks and your choice of pizza and or chili. The majority of the office sat down and watched a good flick, ate some food and took our minds off of the everyday chaos. Since I started back in August it's been non-stop. Working lots of early mornings, late hours and some weekends too. It's not ideal having an unpredictable schedule, especially when you try carpooling. But for the most part, if you have to leave you have to leave and everyone is okay with that. I love working as a Designer, and those that I get to work with. Every day is something new, something creative and usually lots of "stressful fun."

Shan is having a girls night tonight so I think Zipper an I will be hanging out. Hopefully I'll find some time to ride the bike or go for a run. As I mentioned before, I wanted to start riding more but still haven't worked that out. Things are going to change though. Thanks to Ryan for keeping me motivated I'll be back on the bike and fit real soon. Watch out!

WEEKEND UPDATE

22 January 2007

Not much to post and it's just after midnight. I'm tired and having a hard time thinking right now. I should probably go to bed.

I went to Vegas early friday morning for work. I wish It was to ride bikes but not this time. Our entire office along with the "others" (Reno, Phoenix) flew out for the "big meeting" It was actually a pretty good time with lots of delicious food. The 16 hour day came to a close later that night with Shan and Zipper as we faded out to a movie on the couch.

We woke up early on sat. and as always, made our way to Snowbasin for a day of skiing. The snow conditions are still pretty slim but we always have fun regardless. We worked on Shan's 180's in the park... she's got em down pretty well.

I'm making some goals to ride my bike a bit more. starting today. I'll let you know how the play out. This week should be a bit more relaxed at work and home so finding a few hours on the bike shouldn't be too hard.

Wed. night is the Peoples Choice event for the Addys. If you get a chance I suggest you come out. Some of the best work from Design Firms and Ad Agencies will be on display with your chance to vote on what you think is the best.

THE ONE SHOW

17 January 2007

I attended the ONE SHOW last night and re-kindled my love for design. Not that the flame was going out, but I guess what would be more appropriate to say would be that the flame is now burning brighter. The ONE SHOW is an international "call for entries" each year that receives around 18,000 submissions from Ad and Design agencies from around the world. On display is some of the best creative work you'll ever see (until the next ONE SHOW) by some of the most brilliant designers on the planet. To top the list as always we're clients like Nike, Adidas, AXE and many others. Brilliant ideas that make companies shine... that's what we do.

With each year the One Show Annual is published (which makes a great gift) and sold. Beautifully designed, it contains more examples of brilliant creative work from around the world in all mediums.

I love my job, I love this industry. I love that I get to "draw pictures" all day and with every new project comes a new idea. Always having to think and create. Visual Communication. I may not always have the best ideas or know exactly how to execute them, but I get to work with the people and resources that do. Having the ability to learn from them is what makes being a designer, a creative, a visual communicator, or what ever you prefer, so wonderful.

SOME BACKGROUND INFO

15 January 2007

the name KDAY was given to me by a cycling coach a number of years ago and has stuck with me ever since. I enjoy name and like when people use it and for the most part, prefeer it. It's short, simple and easy to say, shout or spell and fun for all ages.

About six years ago a few of my good friends showed up to a mountain bike race all wearing "KDAY RACING" tee shirts, with their own nickname printed on the back, which started an entire new revolution that pretty much didn't go anywhere. Not that I cared any way. We did make about a dozen more tee's for some other friends and family but that's about it.

So with that in mind and taking a look at how I have directed my blog in the past, I figured it only makes sense to change the name from STUDIOPHIVE to KDAY RACING.

Will there be new tee's? maybe. who knows what the future will hold but it's time to embrace it and let the creative juices flow, the skis shred and the bike wheels moving in circles.

THANKYOU H2O

11 January 2007

Never underestimate the power of water. I woke up today feeling pretty crumby. I was tired because I stayed up too late working on some web projects, my sinuses we're clogged and I was achy all over. if I could I wold have called in sick but there's simply too much going on at work right now that I can't afford to miss a day. I'm not the typer of person who likes to call in sick, but if I feel like I'm going to spread the plague then for the sake of the common man, I'll stay home.

Today i felt like I would be fine at work and sure enough, I'm hanging in there. I make it a priority to was my hands as much as possible but most importantly... I'm drinking the water and there's nothing better. I did stop and get a hot chocolate on my way in and when or production manager offered to buy me another from Starbucks, i didn't refuse. In closing, i'd just like to give a shout out to WATER and for all of it's transparent goodness that does a body good.

AND 2 MORE

I put in another blissful 2 hour ride on the rollers last night. I took a brake form the typical DVD watching and cued up Steve Jobs keynote address from the other day. As always, Apple Computer Inc, I mean Apple Inc. threw it down in a major way by reinventing the way we function every day. I need not to go into detail because I'm sure all of you have heard the announcement made on the balmy San Fran day. Highlights of the keynote: The prank call to Starbucks (that Steve is one funny guy) The CEO of Cingular, reading sentence for sentence his part of the presentation. Riveting. and just to show that even the best computers in the world can have a hiccup from time to time... the delay in the presentation due to some technical difficulties.

All in all the two hour presentation was captivating enough to keep me pedaling the entire time, but I don't think I could do it again. I look forward to getting back to some cool ski movies or something with monster trucks in the future, maybe even a few tour flicks, but even those can get a little boring with my attention span.

TWO HOURS

08 January 2007

I just finished a nice two hour ride on the rollers. It takes a lot out of you to sit in one place for that long but I don't mind too much. It's the price I have to pay when I'd rather use my days off and or saturday to ski. I just throw in a good movie or two (tonight: Zoolander and Sentenced to Life) sit back and pedal away. You have to make sure you dring lots and lots of water and as you should any way, continue the efforts to stay hydrated. riding indoors on the rollers or a trainer you typically loose a lot of water. It's now about 11:30 and I'm turning in for the evening. I'll close with some randon thoughts:

Nate Page
has figured out the best study method ever.
Primetime has been putting in the miles and looks mean and lean.
The event of a lifetime. Who wants to go?

GOOD TIMES

06 January 2007

Generally when we (as in who ever comes skiing with us) get together on the hill, we have a good time. Here's an example:

no animal products were harmed during this short film. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, it's just not as fun. Jason is an experienced snowboarder and agreed to let me ski next him while holding a camera.

WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF

05 January 2007

SNOW! Finally we get some more snow. I pulled the "I think I've got the black lung" Zoolander- this morning to our Creative Director. Unfortunately it was just a joke and made my being late, not such a big deal. If only I went through with the plan and went skiing instead of work.

I've been trying to ride my bike. Because I work during the day I'm forced to ride inside on the rollers. I don't mind too much. Just throw in a good ski movie or Zoolander, and pedal away. I tried really hard to actually ride consistent this week and I came up about the same as i always do. Twice. Twice I've ridden this week. I have big plans to one day brake the #2 mark. I'm pushing for 3 and maybe even 4, but that's only if time stops and I continue to move along. No big deal for now... I'll get around to it. Winter is a time for skiing, and skiing is what I'll do.

Zipper has a new hole in his ear. It appears that he got into another fight and came out with a nice persing. If anyone out there knows how to train your cat to be a ninja, give me a call.

Shan's been working hard and hardly working. For most of December she was working seven days a week. She left Pineview Rehab, and is now working it up as a ski instructor at our winter home away from home, Snowbasin. She loves the job and is having a great time teaching little groms how be real shredders. I'm happy because she has found something she really really enjoys, only has to commit a few times a week and gets me a ski pass. A+ Thanks Shan.

TWOTHOUSANDANDSEVEN

01 January 2007

Welcome 2007 and thank you 2006. It's been a fantastic year to say the least. Full of wonderful events, friends, family and lots of fun. Of course there have been the down times as well, but it seems as if they only make you stronger and better as we move forward.

Shan and I spent some time at my mothers house this evening with my family. we all left about 10:30 in order to give my mother a brake from the chaos. After all, she did spend the prevous night in the hospitle. She went into a diabetic shock and suffered some major problems. She's home now though and trying hard to get back to a "healthy" condition.

We just celebrated the new year and now here i sit, posting to the blog. pretty exciting? not entierly, but shan and I don't mind. we enjoy each others company and are pretty recourceful when it comes to enjoying the moment.

It's been a pretty enjoyabel weekend with all kinds of stuff going on. Check out some photos HERE.

I'll leave you with this: I have some pretty strong feelings about the current situation that is taking place, every time I make a gasoline purchase or want to rent a movie for the evening.

At the locak Chevron/Mcdonalds there is Redbox movie rental thing... directly in front of the Redbox are two handycap parking places, followed by numerous other parking places that are rairly taken. For some reason, people think it's okay to park in the designated handycap parking stalls while they look for a movie at the Redbox. These people are completely out of line and desirve the title of JACKASS. That is totally unacceptable even if you leave your car running, leave someome waiting inside or quickly rent a movie. Unless you have been granted permission to use these parking stalls, STAY OUT, you lazy scum bag. And just the other night, I saw someone who instead of parking in the stall he parked in front of both of them. He basically took up both spots without even parking in them + he caused quite the traffic jam between people trying to get a supersized burger and fries and those of us trying to fill up.

I don't mean to complane or sound like a raging, crazy person. I just want people to have a little more respect and not be so lazy. That's all.

thank you and have a wonderful New Year. I wish you all the best and hope that twothousandandseven will be a wonderful year.
