FERTILITY ON THE RISE

29 March 2007

Good news! we had our second visit with the OB of this cycle and found that the follicle we've been watching has grown even more. Translation: Shan goes in tomorrow to have and HCG injection and on Sat. the doc will perform IUI (intrauterine insemination). there's only a 25% success rate so we've got our fingers crossed or not crossed depending on our superstitious mood. As with most things, only time will tell the outcome, but we wanted to send a shout out and thank you for your kind support to us in this process. It's been very emotional and testing time and it's far from being over. whether or not we are successful we will continue to keep our heads up because of people like you. Thank you very much.

ON THE LARGER SIDE

My parents discovered a young couple that live near them with a few big dogs. My father got me on the phone and I had to see them.

They're both under two years old and not fully grown. The male (on my left) weighs in about 180. He's been dieting a bit and is down from close to 200. Both are beautiful Saints and have all the great qualities that i've come to love about the breed.

Am I having puppy remorse about our Retriever that will be arriving in June. No, I'm very excited to have a new breed around the house, but my visit with these two gems sealed the deal that they are by far my favorite. And one day, hopefully soon, I'll have another.

15 HOURS

28 March 2007

I've been at work for 15 hours. Yesterday I didn't leave until 9 P.M. and tomorrow may be close to the same. If only I worked as a professional cyclist.

Good night.

SUNSHINE = SUNBURN

26 March 2007

It took me until today to collect my thoughts about the weekend. I found no time to post due to long days, late evenings and Discovery Channel's new show Planet Earth. I'm now starting probably one of the busiest work weeks ever and looking forward to the progress our creative team will make as we push to meet the weekend deadlines of some major projects.

Friday evening Shan and I went out with Tyler and Katie. Our dining experience at the Red Iguana was by far the best one yet, and has now made it on my top 5 meals of a lifetime. Am I actually keeping track of these things? No, it's just a figure of speech but if I were, you can probably bet on it being ranked very high.

Saturday opened up to another day in the sun and on the bicycle. I headed out with Skid, Jake Pantone. Weston Arnell, Mark Rhodel, and Tyler Higley. We made our way to N. Ogden and climbed over the divide and into the valley. made a lap around pineview then up over trappers loop, down to 89 and back to Kaysville. The entire ride all I could think about was getting home to eat the leftovers from the Red Iguana. And when I got home they were just as good as they were the night before.

Shan and I worked around the house a bit and made some dinner arrangements to meet up with Ty and Meg, Shannon and Jen, Blake, Bob and Lyna. We all met up at the Red Butte Cafe (sorry again for being late) had a nice meal and conversation. We hung out and nearly closed the place down then after we went with Ty and Meg, for some ice cream.

Sunday was spent on the set of a TV spot that R&R is shooting for one of our clients. Shan was interested and agreed to come along in hopes of being discovered for her sweet acting ability. We were both asked to be extras, Shan more than me... and despite the sun-burnning exposure, we had a great time. I'll let you know who the TV spot was for and when they should be out. It's not really a secret but I don't think I have the right to say much about it just yet.

SCRUBS

19 March 2007

Hooked up with Blaney this evening for a ride up emigration. I set out from work and met him in the parking lot of the Zoo. He told me he forgot his shorts. A guy like me would have probably bagged it but not Ryan. He quickly rolled up his scrubs, threw on his helmet and we headed out. Situations like this remind me to always ride my bike with every chance I get. Thanks Ryan.

BOB TOLD ME TO

17 March 2007

I'd have to say that today things were pretty good.I took Bobs advice and got out on the bike with some great friends and put in a few hours. 4 to be exact. We left Kaysville and headed south to SL, then up emigration to the top and back . As we expected the canyon was full of cycling enthusiasts of every shape and size, from all corners of the state. Our assumption was right on. Not only was the canyon full of roadies, but according to BZ, the one track on the mountain was pretty crowded too.

After the ride I had intentions of meeting Blaney, Tolbert, and Kevin T, in Draper for some MTB riding. Unfortunately I couldn't make that commitment. But instead, Shan and I threw open the windows, turned up the music and began the long process of spring cleaning. Some much needed things around the house got done so we treated our selves to an evening out to dinner and shopping for a crate, for our new arrival in June. We're both anticipating the pup and wish we could speed up the process but this way we can make sure the house and Zipper are ready for the dog.

I would like to take this opportunity at 11:18 PM to wish everyone a happy St. Patricks day. I just realized that I never once had a speck of green on me the entire day. I think the red hair makes up for it though. Regardless if it's Irish or not.

DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A TOUCH SCREEN?

12 March 2007

Equally as bad as the double space after a period.

If it's not a touch screen monitor then don't smear your grubby fingers all over it. It's just not necessary. Thank you

A NIGHT AT THE ADDYS

11 March 2007

What a party! Each year the UAF (Utah Ad Federation) throws a party to celebrate and honor some of Utah's best design. I say some, because there is a lot more really good design out there that wasn't submitted to the “competition.” In any case, the representation of Visual Communication in Utah, is doing very well.

Submissions in Web, Print, TV, and Radio were all judged and awarded silver, and gold awards as well as Peoples Choice award, Best of Show, and Special Judges Award. R&R cam away with 5 silver, 8 gold and one Special Judges Award for Guerilla Marketing.

it was a nice evening and I'm happy to be a part of such an event. I'm happy that many of the pieces we won with, I had a big part in designing. It's always nice to win awards with your work and get some local or even national recognition, but that's not why we or I do what I do. I'm not a professional cyclist because I want to compete and win. I'm a cyclist that loves the sport and have worked hard to be able compete with the best cyclist in the world. If I win, that's just a small but very enjoyable aspect of something I love to do. I feel the same way about design. I love to be a part of the creative process and see ideas bloom into amazing solutions. I love to learn form those around me and know that as long as I continue to work hard I'll always be able to learn more. Winning awards is just a very small but rewarding aspect of the entire picture.

We did win some awards and so did a lot of other people. Some a lot more than us and some a lot less. I was able to meet a lot of interesting people and enjoy a fancy event with Shan. After the ADDYS we attended the “after party” at Crowell Advertising. A big social event complete with a DJ, lots of food and lots more people to meet. All in all I had a really good time celebrating the WORK of many talented designers and creative people in Utah.

Sorry no photos of our work. I'll try and post some soon.

ONE SPACE AFTER PLEASE

10 March 2007

I couldn't stress this enough and it's something that's always on my mind. Thanks to Jason D for creating a post that touches on the subject.

You only need one space after a period. Thank you. Please visit Jason's Blog to read more and get to know this concept.

INSTALLATIONS, BIKE RIDES AND MAIL

05 March 2007

Stopped by the University of Utah this morning to pay my sister a visit. She's been up since friday working on an installation piece that is truly amazing. The photos don't do it justice + it wasn't finished yet.

She distributed over 100 jars to friends and family and instructed us to place in them, something we consider a treasure. She then built a large (12' or so) wooden room, painted the inside and covered the top with a continuous string. The string starts and ends at her jar while making connecting points at each individual jar in the piece. The sequences' are not random either. carefully thought out the string goes from one person to another that have some sort of connection to each other, like a big network of people who can connect through other connections. Does that make sense? I'm hoping to pay another visit soon to see the finished product.

I was able to get out for a ride today during work. Nothing special but it was most enjoyable. I'm excited for the time change this weekend because that means more riding after work.

I came home today to some really really good mail. A nice package from Smith Optics

and some nice design stuff too. I actually received the design stuff from Veer last week, but hadn't opened any mail until today.

WEEKEND IN THE SOUTH

04 March 2007

I was nice to get away for the weeknd and do some bicycle riding in southern Utah. It wasn't as warm as I expected but it wasn't as cold as it was here. Part of me wanted to bail on the trip down south, stay home and ski. But I figured I could live vicariously through the text messages and phone call updates of how much powder my friends were swallowing every run. Good for them. I was headed to St. George to ride my bicycle with some friends, watch a race and ride bicycles some more.

Day one was spent riding about 70 miles, all of which seemed to be into the wind. Thanks to who ever ordered that up. Good time regardless that worked up a big appetite for some good eats later that night. The house we stayed at had a nice fireplace so finished off the night in my food coma cuddled up next to a warm fire. Kinda weird in St. George, but it was sure nice.

Day two started out with healthy plate of french toast, eggs and hot cocoa. Then Ryan and I hopped on our bikes and went for a morning spin. We found our way to the race site to see how things were going, offer feed to anyone racing and snap a few photos. We found an old Miller Lite can in the dessert and offered it to a few passing Pros, but none seemed to want a hit. Probably not the best idea any way.

The Hotel San Jose team (Sager, Bart, Thomas) pretty much cleaned house followed by Primetime and Bryson for the top five. There was a pretty decent showing in the Pro mens field and part of me was wishing I was in there mixing it up, but the other pat of me was enjoying the spectator side of things for once.

After the race we headed out on another road ride making our way to Hurricane. The wind seemed to be following us the entire weekend and knew we'd be going that rout.

I received a text from Primetime that said “call me”. Sager's antics and some $$ were on the line and Sly was up to the task. To make a great story short... Sly impressed us all with his running/bouldering skills and made his way to the summit of a nearby mountain within the time limit, winning him some cash. Primetime and Sager tell it much better and Sager has a few more good photos of the event.
