AT THE CAR WASH

29 April 2007

Bike rides, yard work, more bike rides, BBQ and smores. It's been a long weekend and I'm almost excited to see a new week start. Maybe I can get some rest.

I woke up early saturday morning to join a friend of mine who was taking some of the "young men" (and LDS term) on a mountain bike ride. We headed to Snobasin for some mad trail riding only to find the trails still very muddy and extremely rough because of all the horse traffic. So we pedaled up the old road up to the resort and Shredded the super pipe.
It turned out to be quite the adventure complete with loose axel nuts, twisted handel-bars and a trip to the car wash to wash off the bikes. Because of this and the time I still had to put into the yard, I ended up bailing out on BZ for a road ride. Sorry about that. Instead I put in a few more hours at the house and in the yard. We were having Ty and Meg and Bob and Lyna over for a BBQ that evening and I still had some clean-up to do. I managed to get things under control and still had time to pedal the mountain bike for about 2 hours. I headed due east from my home to the Kaysville/Layton bench and tore it up. (allow me to Primetime the post for a bit) It's been a while since I've ridden on this section of shoreline, at one point it was part of my every day commute. I know the trails really well but forgot how much fun they are. I hammered in the BIG ring, railed the corners and blasted over a fallen tree in front of a crowd of people. I felt like a super star. You can bet I'll be back up there soon and quite often since it's only a few min. from the house.

I got home in time to clean up a bit, help Shan with a few last min. things and then we sat back, ate lots of food and then lit the fire and sat back some more. We enjoy having friends over especially in the summer. I'm sure we'll have quite a few more back yard parties so hopefully we can accommodate everyone.

We saw our pup tonight... actually we say the litter. I'm not exactly sure which one we'll pick but Shan has already set her heart on the runt. We'll see.

GO MARC

27 April 2007

Here's a little something that I'm getting a lot out of. It's always nice to have a pet fish around right... well thanks to marcfolio, a good friend of mine you can now have a very low maintenence fish with you when ever you're at the computer. For me it works reall nice because I have the option of duel moniters. I can be working one a few projects to the left while a little gold fish swims to my right. Check it out! I've heard it may take a few seconds to load on some computers but so far I've never had to wait. Thanks Marc.

to my right on the second monitor, mixed in with my workspace, swims a golden fish.

I COULDN'T TAKE IT

26 April 2007

First off, I'm glad that I'm not a woman. After what Shan and I went through today I don't think I would last.

I got to work early this morning in order to make sure things I needed to take care of were set to go. I had to leave at 11:30 and figured that I wouldn't be able to make it back. I accompanied Shan to the hospital at about 1pm to perform a test called Hysterosalpingogram. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an X-ray test that examines the inside of uterus and fallopian tubes and the surrounding area. Unfortunately they wouldn't let me in during the test so I sat in the waiting room catching up on and old issue of TIME. Thankfully the test is fairly quick but the results are long lasting. I don't exactly know why, but this type of test puts a woman through some major pain and cramping... like you've never experienced before. So much that along with the test you're prescribed some major pain meds to basically put you out after you leave the hospital.

I got Shan as comfortable as I could and waited while the meds kicked in. She drifted off a bit here and there while the pain died down to just above the typical "time of the month" pain and cramping.

I called in to work to see how things were going and all was well so I didn't need to go back. I went and picked up my sisters pup and brought her back to my place for a yard working companion. I was a bit frustrated because I seemed like I had about 12 hours of work to do and only 4 to do it in. Charging away I'd say I got about 10 hours worth of work done in the alloted time and couldn't be happier. I like doing yard work. It's like design. You have space with elements that need physical manipulating to create visual communication. And the best part is that it's a constant project that usually gets better every time you tend to it. Now I'm beat, and all the design projects for the evening will have to wait.

ALWAYS CLOSE BY

25 April 2007

I was able to get out on the bike twice today, once during lunch and once after work. During my lunch ride I didn't think much as I usually do when I ride. Primarily because I was doing some hill intervals in the avenues and my thoughts we directed to the efforts and recovery not creative thinking. After work I headed up Emigration canyon and while pedaling away my thoughts drifted in a new direction. Usually I find my self thinking about new project that I'd like to work on or solving those of the present day.

As with every day I was accompanied on the ride today by my faithful shadow. Always there, always staying close by and never trying to beat me to the top. Gazing at it for a while I started to think about my current state of being. How extremely fortunate I am to be riding my bicycle at that very moment.

Cycling is a large part of my life and I a good number of people to thank for that. As most people might say, they got into cycling because their father purchased them a bike when they were a kid. For me it was much like that when I was a kid, but as I grew older my father helped me find an interest in the mountain bike world and urged me to save some money and buy my own bike. I did just that and with him we traveled near and far just to ride our bikes. To this day I'm fortunate enough to continue riding with my father and to this day he remains my favorite riding partner.

With cycling being such a large part of my life I'm also fortunate enough to use the strength and skills I've acquired over the years, to compete at a professional level. A dream that has come true. My father along with many others have always supported me with this dream and continue to do so as I work hard to continue doing what I love. As I grew older I met a lovely girl who joined the ranks of those supporters and moved quickly to the top as the #1. My dear wife Shannon has been there for me since day one and has always shown an interest for my interests. A trait of that I'm extremely grateful for and because of her continued support I'll forever be in her debt.

My shadow now represents something more to me than just me. It represents those who have always been there at my side, supporting me while I do the things that I love.

Thank you Shadow.

SOME MINOR PROBLEMS

21 April 2007

So just a bit of information pertaining to studiophive.com. I guess I
forgot to pay my hosting renewal fee and now it's been taken over. I'm
working on getting it back but for now, it's just some random crap
taking up web space. The major problem with the situation is that all
the images I've been hosting for my blog and others are no longer
available. Also, mystudiophive email address is currently down. So I'm
in the process of sending out to those in my address book an optional
email address to use for now and or forever. I'll keep you updated as
to anyurl changes with my personal site and or this blog. I'll be doing my best to make any transitions smooth and painless for you the faithful viewer.

P.S. I put in a little over three hours on the sick trails in Draper. Some fantastic single track on a sweet Santa Cruze MTB. Thanks to Bikers Edge for letting me shred on one of their demo bikes. Hopefully one day I'll have a mountain bike of my own. Primetime is laying it down selling some old parts of mine and doing a fine job of it. He turns your trash into cash.

TAKE IT TO THE ICE

14 April 2007

Blog rule #1: If you post something to your blog about a certain day (say Friday the 13th) and it rolls over into the next day with nothing new... you've broken the rules.

With that in mind I'd like to post a quick movie review. Shan and I accompanied some neighborhood friends to dinner and the movie Blades of Glory. Some crude humor to be expected but for the most part it was the type of mindless humor that kept you laughing and enjoying the show. My major concern about the show was this: It was a direct rip-off of one of my favorites, Zoolander. You can't always come up with ideas that are totally original and in this case I'm not bothered too much because it's such a mindless comedy, but I feel that there were a few too many similarities.

Other than that, this was just a post to fill up some space and send the 13.04.07 down the page.

Thanks and good night.

THE MELTDOWN

08 April 2007

No this has nothing to do with and actual mental episode... it's a relay race held every spring at Snowbasin. Pole Pedal Paddle. My first experience with the race I was teamed up with two complete strangers. My role was to do the cycling portion of the race and we won our category and the overall. Every year since I've teamed up with non strangers and continued the winning streak. It's a pretty fun event that I feel pretty confident to be the fasted cyclist in the bunch. A good way to start the season I guess. Maybe one day I'll do it alone. I've got the skiing thing down, and I'm pretty sure the cycling’s not a problem but the paddling is where thing can get messy. For one, I rarely get in a boat and paddle anywhere and for two... well I think all I need is the one.

Thankfully I was able to team up with my brother-in-law Clay who skied and the famous designer and freegan Jason. Clay, killed it on the skis. With a few course and condition updates he was able to bring it in just as fast as the dude dressed in their full spyder skin suites. At the waterfront, most were making laps around the lake in their streamline sea kayaks but not our team. Jason showed up with his canoe and blew all of them out of the water. I've never seen a canoe go that fast.

After the race PC TV interviewed us. What a joke. And I'm not referring to PCTV. Someone needs to give me some "there's a camera and microphone in your face here's a few random questions interview lesson" I'm a retard. No worries though. Next time the opportunity occurs, you can bet on me to provide something totally random with cool and collective composure. Check out some photos here.

GO GREEN

04 April 2007

That was the theme of the Lunch and Learn I was able to attend today at 3form. Sponsored by Zellerbach and Mowawk with a delicious lunch provided by Wild Oats, I learned all about using recycled paper when producing print for clients and the benefit of your satisfaction when doing so. I was told it only takes 21 days to form a habit and was given a challenge to use the next 21 days or at least until Earth Day, to work on new habits that will contribute to a better tomorrow. The winner receives a weekend getaway at Sundance resort. I'll see what I can do.

APRIL WHAT?

03 April 2007

Yep, April fools came and went and I didn't do a thing about it. Oh well, there's always next year to forget about.

Things are now running smoothly. I was able to catch up on some much needed sleep over the weekend but if you notice the time posting for this entry, you'll see that I'm at it again. I have big ambitions of a consistent sleep schedule but I always find that the late hours come quickly and I've still got things to do. I think I’m going to invest in some time management skills. It's not that I waste much time, I just don't spread it out evenly.

My thoughts today have been scattered and from bicycles, to yard work, infertility, back to yard work, bikes, babies, dogs, cats, work, stressing too much, stressing about stressing too much and why in the world can a printer be working just fine and right when you need it the most it looses a network connection and causes a small bump in the road.

The weekend’s infertility adventure took a few detours but we're back on track today. Things are going well so far but it's only a matter of time. Shan and I are extremely fortunate that we have had the support from family and friends throughout this ordeal and continue to receive that support. Shan has also made some really good contacts of others out there that share the same inconveniences that she has been going through. Maybe one day I'll be able to thank you all individually, but for now you'll just have to know that we do notice and feel your support.

I took last week off of the bike and I'm feeling pretty good about that. Although I'm having some leg cramps today because of my mad gymnastics skills I'm trying to acquire. Shan was spotting me on the grass yesterday as I attempted standing back-flips. Don't expect me to throw one out by my self any time soon but I think I’m getting close.

I'm a bit worried about the mountain bike situation. I'm selling old parts to buy new parts and build up the old Homegrown. It's a solid frame with some major potential. With a few Semi-Pro NCS podium finishes under her belt I figure why not give er a go with the big dogs. The problem is... She's not getting new parts any time soon. Primetime “I'll turn your trash into cash” is doing a bang up job selling my old stuff and that's no easy task. It's now just a waiting game to see how much we can bring in to put towards the new.
