IT'S PRIMETIME

31 May 2007

Took a ride this evening with PRIMETIME. Lots of fun riding with the fox, he's texting, shooting photos, and pushing big gears. He took it easy today so everyone at Sundance this weekend better watch out.

MID-WEEK WEEKEND RE-CAP

30 May 2007

I was hoping to spend a bit more time doing nothing, which results in posts to the blog but that didn't happen. Now, with a lot on my mind I'd like to lay it all out (summarizing of course) the events, thoughts and actions.

Shan and I scored suite tickets to the Jazz game last Saturday night. I don't consider my self a huge sports fan or even a major Jazz fan, but Shan had never been to a game and since it was the finals and in a suite, I figured we'd better attend this one. The seats were great, the game was even better. The main aspect that gets me excited about sporting events it the support from the crowd. I'm sure most cyclists feel the same... It's great when people are shouting your name and yelling encouraging words, and that night at the game was full of crazy, shouting fans. I loved it and tried to be one of them.

There are a few things I'm a bit disappointed about that I noticed during the Jazz game. I don't think I've ever seen such a poor use of Typography in my life. Now granted this is Utah and the use of the typeface Papyrus, is found in just about every company logo from beauty salons to construction, and on just about every church announcement made. With that in mind I should have guessed that I'd see it at the Jazz game. “I think that at one point in life every one discovers Papyrus and uses it thinking they've discovered a cool new typeface.” -Tyler McBride.
Nothing says DE-FENSE better than a fiery sign with Papyrus. There were many other examples of bad type, but it appears that I'm going a bit too far and loosing your interest.

On the cycling front... I finally got my race machine built up and ready to roll. I spent a good portion of Saturday at Bikers Edge building and fine tuning the old Homegrown. The first test ride validated my thoughts that this was the bike for me.

Memorial monday came and what better way to remember those not only who have not only paid the price for FREEDOM but for cyclists as well. The race series took us to the new and old trails in Draper/corner canyon/suncrest area, for the Stan Crane memorial race. We had a decent showing of 14 hot rods in the pro mens field. It was an excellent race and it felt good to finally get back into the swing of things. I felt strong and consistent through the entire ride and wasn't totally blown at the end. Hopefully this is a sign of good fitness that will only get better as the season rolls on.

this is my dads post race cool down.
Quick Kashi update.
We were going to pick him up this Saturday but Shan will be participating in the Little Red Ridinghood women's ride, so we'll have to wait until Sunday morning. we're very excited and have been making some excellent changes around the house to welcome him in.

GOOD MORNING

17 May 2007

Last night I had to leave work a bit early for a 6:30 appointment. I hammered from the office in SL to my house in Kaysville in just under an hour. Fastest commute yet. I went to bed early 10:45 and got up a 5 am. I was going to shred some trails with BZ on the commute today and I had to be at Eagle Wood golf course at 7. The mountain bike is a bit slower on the road so I took off around 6 and arrived just in time. The North SL shoreline trail is by far the best way to get from Davis County to SL County. No one in sight, clean air and a good view of the crowded streets below. Thanks BZ. I rounded out about 2 hours on the bike this morning and it re-charged my love for getting up early.

I've decided to sit it out this weekend and get some needed things around the house done. Plus I think I'll take to one of my favorite rides and head up Farmington canyon, to the radair towers. So good luck to those duking it out at Soldier Hollow and I'll see you in a few weeks in Draper.

p.s. SDAY tells it like it is. Thanks for the support.

BIG NEWS

16 May 2007

Congratulations to KEVIN TAYLOR for getting accepted to George Washington University Medical School. If there's any one I know that is deserving of this achievement it's Kevin. Unfortunatly this means he and his wife and their new baby (still on the way) will be moving to Maryland. I guess we'll just have to make a few trips out to see them and stay in the lake house while we're there. CONGRATULATIONS KEV!

Also on the new arrival scene... Kashi, will be joining our family on June 3rd. it's been a long wait and still seems too long to wait but Shan and I are anticipating the new addition to our family. Of course it's going to be a lot of work but I think it will really help take some of the pressure and disappointment off of continued unsuccessful attempts to have one of our own. The infertility front keeps throwing mountains in our direction, but Shan is staying strong we're both working hard to get over them.

Thanks Ryan

THE MOAB

12 May 2007

Weekend in Moab has been great. It was HOT but well worth the trip. Road Porcupine Rim and Slickrock on Friday and then Slickrock again on Sat (went with some friends who haven't been there for a while) I wish I could have busted out a few more rides while I was there but I had to come home for some Mothers Day celebrations. All in all it was a great trip with some great friends. It's late and I'm tired so I'll keep this one short.

Gett'n loose in baggy shorts

GOING SOUTH

09 May 2007

Some of you may be headed North this weekend to Lava Hot Springs for some mountain bike racing but not me. I'm headed to Moab for some not mountain bike racing. I still don't have my bike my "race bike" or even a mountain bike to call my own, but thanks again to Bikers Edge for lending me a cool new bike every week, i'm good to go.

SHE'S IN THE ZONE

07 May 2007

Just a heads up for all you bike racers and supporters of bike racers. Shan's adding another blog to her collection and this time it's for you.

As many of you know my lovely wife seems to be another common face at all the mountain bike races. From the registration table to the feed zone, you can always count onShan to be yelling names, cheering racers on and handing out bottles to those in need. (all under my father's supervision when he's there) When the racing ends the cyclist gather and tell each other about their day in the saddle, fighting for the win. While we travel home and collect our thoughts about each race,Shan, will be summing up the day from the worker/observer/supporter and providing her report on the web.

Shan's been in the business of pit-crew for nearly 8 years now and has a pretty good idea of how things roll. She knows what to say and what not to say, depending on how the race went. She knows the riders and is not afraid to out-yell my father when it comes to cheering us on. She welcomes those to the ranks of the "real troopers" those who sacrifice their day to watch a 2-3 hour bike race and only see the person they came to support for about 15 sec. every 40 min. And She's always willing to provide a kind word of advice for those who are new to the sport and are bit nervous to hand a bottle to a racer.

So feel free to join her as she travels to and from each bike race, supporting racers and providing a unique look at bicycle racing.

You can find this blog here. Or click on "Shan" under my list of links (crew) to the right.

33 OF 44

05 May 2007

I'm not exactly sure what happened to me today but it did.

I went into the race today with a few expectations... I figured that my fitness wasn't quite at the top of the game yet but I had some in the bank to get me through and in decent shape. I was wrong. I'm not exactly sure why I suffered so bad today but even though it happened I felt that I kept a pretty good attitude about it. There could be numerous things to blame for my poor performance, but why waste the time and effort to list or even talk about them. I know what I need to do and I know how to do it.

Often "life" gets in the way of some of our daily, monthly and even yearly goals but those who keep pushing forward and continue to make an effort to achieve them, are those who came across the line in front of me today. Thankfully I have some good friends (TY, Meg and Ryan) that helped push me along today and kept my heart in the game. Maybe next time things will be a bit different, but if not I'll step back, re-evaluate the situation and continue trying to be like those who finished before me.

CALLING ALL CARS

02 May 2007

Approaching another fun filled weekend, there's something for every one. For the Quilters and fabric connoisseurs like Shan, there's Market. Not exactly sure where or how it all works, but I think you need to have an in with a business to participate. Shan will be joining her friend Barbra, who owns Quilt Soup. they'll be in a dream world full of quilt-tastic fun, all day friday and sat.

For us bike racers who are not in Cal. at the national, we'll all head west of Lehi to duke it out in the 5 mile pass race. Don't let the 5 mile thing fool you though, it's no where near 5 miles... In fact it's damn near 40 miles of desert mountain bike racing excitement. It's my first race for the season and I'm a bit nervous. I'd like to think I'm feeling good about my fitness but there have been a few times this season of riding where I felt like dirt, and that's sort of keeping me down. I guess we'll see how it unfolds on Sat. but I can't hold too much on this race. It's not really my type of race. Should be a good time regardless AND just to let every one know.... Skid (Ryan Blaney) is hosting a BBQ at his place in the UC after the race. Lots of food, swimming and or hot tubs, and cycling flicks on the big screen. Let me know if you're interested and I'll tell you how to get there.
For you NERDS out there I have this. Sunday morning set your alarms for 2:00 am so you can truly experience and alignment like no other. 02:03:04 on 05/06/07 (time 2:03 and 4 seconds on 5 May, 2007) Let me know how it works out.
