THREE FORTY-FIVE

28 August 2007

I didn't make a huge effort but I did get up to check it out. I looked around but there were too many clouds and trees so I went back to bed. I then got up with the dog at 5:30 and managed to snap a photo of a not so eclipsed moon. Guess I'll have to wait another three years.

ENJOYING THE HARVEST

26 August 2007

Not much to say tonight before I turn in but I'll share this. Playing "500" with a bunch of bony elbowed cyclist can be extremely dangerous.

BZ hosted a BT (bacon and tomato) sandwich party on sat evening and Jones took it above the eye. A very loud thump followed by a lot of blood. Thankfully Shannon Boffelli was there to take care of things and Bob had a first aid kit in the car. Other than that, the food was delicious and I'm once again a big fan of the BT or BLT sandwich. It's been a while since I've had one and I simply forgot how wonderful they really are.

PINNED FOR 1:40

20 August 2007

Saturday's Exterra race brought a new and fresh feeling not only to the legs but to my fitness all around. Bikers Edged hooked me up with another stellar relay team that promised to hold down a pretty fast race. And we did. Brad Pilling, from Revolution, was there again this year with the same team as last year. I don't quite remember their names but I do know their swimmer has gills, Pilling has a mean set of legs and their runner belongs in the Ripleys believe it or not, museum of really really fast beasts of the earth.

I didn't want to make the mistake of last year and go hard into it with no warm-up so I took my road bike and spun on the trainer while my mtb sat in the transition area. The race started and the swimmers were under way. Brads team came out of the water in the top 3 and quickly made the switch. About a min. or so later my swimmer came out of the water and it was time for me to give it some love. Sometimes in a race when the pressure is on and I'm feeling tapped, I'll convince myself to ease back a bit and just "sit in." I pretty much stop fighting. I told myself that i'm better than that and that I can contend with any of these athletes, and so I did, and it's a good thing. It's actually been a while since I've ridden my bike that well both on the climb and the dh. To make a long story short.. I caught Pilling and by the end of the cycling portion I had a decent gap. We needed it though. Our runner set out and did nothing but his best but unfortunately Pilling's team, like I mentioned before, had a runner that was off the charts. He caught and passed our runner about half way through and continued to blaze his way to the finish. They ended up winning the team competition leaving second place for us.

It was a fantastic race with great weather and lots of media all over the course. I felt like a rock star being chased by the paparazzi. I wonder where all that video footage and photos go.

NOT TONIGHT

19 August 2007

It's only 8:40 on sunday night but I'd rather spend some more time with Shan and take Kashi for a walk than post about the weekend. Good times though. I did however upload some photos so check em out here. Thanks and good day.

THE BEARDED MAN

12 August 2007

After a long week of working my fingers to the bone, commuting (which by the way I did set a new "PR" from the R&R Office 837 E South Temple to my home in Kaysville. 53 Min.) and some mad soccer on tuesday night, the weekend came and went just like that.

I started off the week trying real hard to grow a beard. By saturday night, I was tired of dealing with scrappy scruff on my neck that had very little sex appeal. As if a beard does any way. I pulled out the razor and cleaned it up a bit... what was I thinking? I'm not a bearded man type. In fact, I'm quite content that I don't have to deal with facial hair as much as some people I know.

Shan has been putting in some miles so that she could participate in the ULCER road ride (on Sat). She did a fantastic job and finished strong. I'm really proud of her. Blaney, Tolbert and I decided we needed a few more miles so we headed out from Thanksgiving point to Draper, over Suncrest and towards AF canyon. Blaney works the night shift and was pretty wasted so he opted out from here. Tolbert and I made our way up AF canyon to the Alpine loop, which is by the way, one of my favorite road rides in the state. On our way down we stopped at Sundance for a Coke and then on to Provo canyon. The bike path was rockin. A few people here and there and one scary snake. It was only about 8"-12" long but I'm not real big on snakes. I didn't mean to run him over but I had no choice. One of the best 7 hours in the saddle this season. Nothing too intense, just a good long and steady ride with some great friends.

P.S. Whoever started the mountain on fire in Farmington, better be apologizing real soon.

A COMMUNICATION REJECT

09 August 2007

One of my many communication flaws that I've been trying to work on, is my keen ability to provide useless information when it's not entirely needed. Throughout my life I've considered myself a shy and quiet person. If I'm around good friends my comfort level goes up as does my participation in the conversation, but for the most part, I've never been a big talker. I'm also a dreamer. Often times I find myself absent from the audio and present in the visual. Distracted, but slightly there. I don't see this as always being a bad thing, but often times it has been to my disadvantage. I'm realizing that at times this is one of the main reasons I speak such useless mumbo jumbo.

Shan has always worked with me to keep the conversation going or to at leas start one. Her personality is one that is typically needing or providing audio for validation purposes. I'm not necessarily the type that needs (or at least I think so) or uses this type of communication. For the most part we work pretty well together but at times we do collide. Most of those times are because of me, not providing the necessary feedback.

Just the other day one of my neighbors asked me what it is that I do for a living. “I'm a graphic designer” I said. I proceeded to tell him where I worked and the type of projects I work on. He seemed fairly interested and I enjoy talking to others about design, so I figured our conversation may end up having some depth. He then asked “where do you get your inspiration?” My inner monologue began as did my mouth. Inside I was thinking... where don't I get inspiration! My thoughts continued, as did my mouth. By the time I figured out that I was digging a hole and spitting out useless information about typography I also noticed the attention of my neighbor had zoned out. I blew that one for sure.

It was a great opportunity to be an advocate on design. It was also a great opportunity to make myself look silly and possibly bore someone to death. And that's what I did. Thinking about that conversation I can only learn more about myself, the way I communicate and the aspects of design that are appealing to me. With that in mind I'll revamp my "sales strategy" and hopefully one day, try it again.

IT'S BEAUTIFUL

08 August 2007

I'm not trying to be a computer dork here, this is more of a design thing. But you have to admit... They know what they're doing. My poor iMac feels old and fat now and it's less than two years old. Thanks Apple.

THE 9:45 SIT DOWN

05 August 2007

To wrap up a long and sleepless week I find myself in a familure spot. Sitting in front of the computer. Debating wheather or not I should update the blog or should mindlessly search the www. The decission I made is quite obvious.

Things were pretty busy this week at work since half the creative department was in Texas shooting a few TV spots. Long relentless days that seemed to strech into the night left me with some tired eyes. A little bit of riding here and there, a new bike set-up and before I knew it the weekend was here.

Saturday rolled around and Shan and I made our way to the Uintas for the final mountain bike race or the icup series. My legs felt pretty heavy during the warm up but I was pretty optimistic about that. I feel like I have pretty good fitness right now and it would probably take a bit to get them going. The race started and they never really seem to do so. Not a big deal. It was good time in the saddle to dial in the new ride and to see exactly how much fun you can have during a mountain bike race when you're suffering.

Thanks to Jake and Jonny at Bikers Edge. The new ride was great!
Shan wanted to get some time in on the road bike so our stay in Evanston was a bit short. But thanks to Primetime for the snagging a few boxes of pizza, Bob and the Revolution team for some cold drinks, we headed out with full stomachs and drinks in hand.

Shan and I decided to take Kashi for his first bike ride. You wouldn't believe the looks we got when those passing by noticed that instead of kids in the trailer we had a dog. I didn't think it would be that unusual, but apparently it is.

I'm curious to know... when you see my dog why do you assume he's a girl. and even when I tell you he's a boy you continue to refer to him as a "her." Does my dog look like a girl?

WHAT A FINE SELECTION

03 August 2007

Smith just posted their new line of winter helmets and goggles.

Just in time as I'm anticipating some winter time fun on the slopes this year. Ya, it's obviously still summer but what's the harm in taking some time away in thought and filling it with a few face shots.

STORAGE

Shan and I have been putting some serious thought about the house and the "improvements" we'd like to make in and around. I'm in desperate need of some storage for the lawn and garden tools and some other misc. items. I've been looking at purchasing or building a shed for the yard and haven't found the dream shed. I did though, stumble across this site with some fantastic examples.

Maybe I could pick my fav. and have it built. Or not.
