Nothing like a good old Scout Breakfast to start the day.

COWBOY UP

26 September 2007

I'm loosing respect for the minority that I share a common bond with and gaining respect for the western horseman.

What's the deal with cyclists that are too good to acknowledge another cyclist presence on the road. Unless you're completely blow from some freakishly intense interval, your visions blurry and it's all you can do just to hang on to your handlebar, I don't see a reason you can't at least nod your stupid head. What's even worse is when we pass in opposite directions and with your stink eye, you stair at me as if you're sizing me up to make sure that for some reason you have to turn around you could catch me and then drop me. The other morning when I while commuting to work I didn't see any cyclist, but I did come across a cowboy, riding his horse down a side street in Centerville. Nothing out of the norm I guess, but what he did do was tip his hat and give me a nice wave. That's the type of enthusiasm I'd expect from other cyclist. We're out there turning the pedals, getting fit, training for a race, commuting to work, or just having a nice spin. We're a minority. Prayed upon by a few idiot drivers and envied by kids in a school bus.

For me, I get excited when I see others out cycling. It's an opportunity to meet someone new, or hook up with another cycling buddy. I figure why not start it off right, with a wave or nod. Let em know I care.

HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS LATE?

I set up a new screen saver on my computer at work. It's like a giant old school alarm clock. When I rolled in today at 10:15 my boss told me it's now easier to tell when I'm late because I have a huge clock displayed on both my monitors. Maybe not the best idea.

BIKE LANE

18 September 2007

Back in the swing of things and commuting on the bike again. I had a little bout of sickness last week but it was nothing that a little Thursday night soccer wouldn't fix. If you're interested let me know. I'll get you the time and location.

If anyone is interested in putting together a group MTB ride this weekend let me know. 4-5 hrs would be great. We could link some trails between the Crest and Deer Valley??

BEAR LAKE MONSTER

10 September 2007

Had a really nice anniversary weekend in Bear Lake with Shan and Kashi. We sat on the beach all day Sat and pretty much did nothing. I did think about all those poor suckers racing from Logan to Jackson though. The wind was at my back on the beach, hopefully it was at theirs as well.

I made some cards for Shannon that I gave to her throughout the weekend.

Kashi displayed his love for the water and showed off his retrieving skills.

I built a sand castle, complete with seashell landscaping and a Chopper.

Shan built a toilet.

I came across what could be the worlds largest fry. (I have to give credit to Kevin Taylor for this one. He showed it to me close to ten years ago and it's been making people smile ever since.)

THE END

THE PUNISHER

03 September 2007

An extra long weekend with lots of yard work, good times with Shan and one big bike ride.

Took friday off work to help my father bring in some gravel for his yard. After a few hours of loading and unloading gravel at his house I headed to mine to do the same. I woke up early on Sat. and continued to work away with a few large landscaping projects of my own. When Shan got home from playing a bit of tennis with her mum, she suited up and made my life much easier. She worked on the front of the house while I was in the back. By the end of the day thins were in tip top shape. We went to the BUZZ game that evening to sit back and watch what I think can be the laziest sport on the planet. Don't get me wrong, those guys have some talent, but seriously... there are very few times where they really need to put out some watts and get it going.

Sunday was Sunday. I took a nap late in the day and that was nice.

TODAY (Monday) was a day for the books. One of the best rides I've had in a while. A total of 7 hours on the mountain bike with about 8000+ feet of climbing.

I met up with Ryan around 8 am. We left his house in Pleasant Grove, and peadled about 25 min to AF canyon. Headed up the canyon to Tibble Fork Res. and caught the dirt road. Our destination... UP. Up to Mineral Basin. Once we got there we decided to continue to the top of Snowbird. With 4 hours of climbing under the belt we reached our first major destination at the tram and were greeted by the Alpine Horns of Oktoberfest. We made our way to the sundeck at Snowbird and had some lunch, then on down the canyon where we caught the shoreline trail back to Draper. We rode up Corner Canyon in the BLAZING heat then down Hog Hollow. From there it was some more road riding back to Ryan's place in PG. Sounds pretty simple until you try it. Despite the hordes of helmet-less ATV riders just above Tibble fork, I'm a gluten for those climbing suffer feast rides and loved every min of it. I'm open to do this one again, any time so let me know if you're interested. Some Photos HERE

Now it's time to let it all sink in and kick back on the couch. Enjoy the video. Sorry it's a bit shaky... Ryan's sugars were a bit high (from all the cliff blocks and gel) so he was kinda twitchy.
