FRONT YARD BOOTER

27 December 2007

Shan and I built a sweet jump in the front yard. After a few runs on the skis we brought out the sleds and kept the neighbors up because we were so rowdy.

WHITE RUNWAY

23 December 2007

Another fabulous day of skiing on Sat. but no photos to show. I had the camera the entire time but never got it out. Shan snapped a few photos of this unfortunate event though.

I need to give props to my brother-in-law (the little brother I never had) for his mad flying skills. He's currently enrolled in the flight program at Utah State and doing very well. I got to sample some of his work as we took a flight up to Logan tonight to drop him off for the evening. As we came in on the approach I noticed that the runway was covered in snow. I thought to myself... what a perfect situation for an airplane to slide off the runway and ruin the evening, but thankfully that wasn't in our flight plan. We touched down beautifully on the white runway and taxied in to drop him off. Well done! Maybe one day you'll be flying the friendly skies and over the intercom you'll hear, "this captain Silver, welcoming you aboard."

JUST A FEW THINGS

20 December 2007

There are a few things in life that I often find my self thinking about, that to me, really don't make sense or that should just be modified to better suite you an I, or maybe just me.

First off, Traffic and Weather Reports. I'm putting them in the same group so that I don't ramble on about each individually. From my experience, the traffic reports, mainly radio, are never accurate. They're often provided by someone texting or calling in and by the time they get over the airways, the situation has changed. I don't think it takes long to figure out the traffic patterns in and out of the city, so unless there's a major "out of the ordinary" problem... Just save your breath. The weather report is much the same. Wasted time. I understand the importance of Meteorologists, and in fact I think it would be an interesting career to pursue, but often times they remind me of an adjunct math professor teaching night classes. They enjoy filling you with too much information in hopes of coming across as a genius, but instead they're just poor communicators/instructors. Just give me your prediction for the next 5 days and if I have any questions, I'll take a walk outside and give it a guess myself. Also, why do they always inform people about the weather and temperature at the airport? It's not like we all live there or even go there every day.

Giving anything over 100% is impossible. Those people that "go the extra mile" or give 110% have always given less than 100%. They just stepped it up a notch. I know because I'm one of them. I've gone the "extra mile" before but thought to myself... No, I just tried harder and was able to accomplish more than I did first time. I still might not have even given 100%. I'm not sure if there's even a way to determine if you've actually given 100%. If you find out, please let me know.

Wearing a bluetooth ear piece while you're driving is acceptable. Wearing your dorky bluetooth ear piece when you're at dinner with your family, in a public bathroom (chatting or not) or just about anywhere else is unacceptable. Strapping a giant blue tooth to your face and talking to your self about big business deals while sitting in a restaurant, is hilarious.

Reply All. Reply all function in your email application is not a toy. Please use this sparingly and ONLY when it's needed. This is a nice option that gets abused every day.

And finally, Internet Explorer and www. If you're using Internet Explore, I feel that you should stop. Firefox is much better. If you're creating some type of information graphic of any sort, I personally feel that 99.9% of the time "www" should always be taken out of the URL description. And when you're surfing the World Wide Web, try going to your favorite website without typing www. I'm sure you'll get there just fine.

And remember to always live each day as if it were your best.

I'LL TAKE A FEW MORE JUST LIKE THIS

15 December 2007

Not a bad day. Shan and I met my sister and her husband at Snowbasin this morning for a little time on the snow. We hooked up with Jake Pantone, and later on Jeamia (good friend from the neighborhood). Nothing better than some much needed time on the skis, even though our snow situation is still a bit lean. The new down jacket proved to be all that and more. There's a reason why guys wear them on Everest. I was plenty warm throughout the day and for the most part... a bit too warm.

After a full day Shan and I came home to a sad puppy in the back yard. I decided I'd better make it up to him in some form other than a few miles around the hood. We headed for the shoreline trail above Kaysville and soon found ourselves half way up Adams Canyon. Might as well go to the falls. It's been a while since I've been there in the winter, but after today, you can guess I'll be making a few more trips up there before winter is over. It's defenatly worth the extra effort. photos

Kashi continues to amaze me with his freestyle hiking skills and sense of navigation. I could easily put all my trust in him if something were to go wrong. All in all, I learn something from him every day. As much as Shan and I would love to have our family started by now, Kashi seems to pull a lot of weight and always make life in and out of the house wonderful.

I feel very fortunate this day for many reasons. 1. For Shannon. I can't express how happy I am to have such a great wife who not only encourages me to do the things I love, but she is always willing to do those things with me. 2. Good friends. I've never been short of having good QUALITY friends around or at leas a phone call away. You know who you are. 3. A dog. Never in my life have I been without a dog for too long. A good friend told me a story about creating a presonal relationship with a dog and I can happily say that I've had many eternally lasting relationships and I can't wait to get to Rainbow Bridge. (Rainbow Bridge is explaind below. If you've ever had a pet that you've truly loved I encourage you to read it. Otherwise, this now becomes a very long post).

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together

LASER BEAMS IN MY CEREAL

12 December 2007

Reflected light
I became fascinated by the tiny ray of light that traveled from one side of the building to the other, and reflected off the wall by my desk. I may have missed it had it not been for my "best costume" trophy. Thanks Halloween!
my new favorite breakfast
A nice take-home from my work christmas party contained a sweet cook book with some of the best food photography i've ever seen. Not to mention the recipe for these... "Fluffys" they're moving up my top 10 for breakfast list, and they don't seem to be looking back. They've got a long shot for the #1 spot though. You've go to pack a serious punch if you want to beat good old cereal. There's just way too many delicious choices and you can't beat the simplicity behind it.

KASHI HOLIDAYS

09 December 2007

Shan and I put off a good ski day for some final holiday season preparation. This weekend has been filled with lots of playing in the snow, hanging lights, picking out trees, attending parties, and more playing in the snow. Now it's time to put in some time on the sticks.

01 December 2007

It's called a "Wovel." I didn't have one of these today, but I still knocked out my driveway (twice) and three of my neighbors. If you want your driveway shoveled by yours truly, then move to my neighborhood.
