I've never had a problem with motion sickness until Sat. night. As usual, I found my self tossing and turning, only this time I simply couldn't keep my head off the pillow. Every time I lifted my head the room began to spin in every direction, causing me to loose all balance and fall flat on my face. Thankfully I was in bed and falling on a pillow is quite nice. After about the third time I figured something was defiantly wrong. As I laid there trying recover from a sever case of vertigo, my first thought was Carbon Monoxide poisoning. If that was the case, then our detector is proving to be pretty useless at a time like this. I got out of bed and stumbled down the hall to check the number on the LED screen. 0. Strange, I had no clue what was happening.
Thankfully Shan helped me back into bed and phoned her father. He immediately said it sounds like I have a case of Labyrinthitis, and that I should continue to stay flat in bed and hydrate as much as possible. According to what we found out, Labyrinthitis, has been known to last from two days to a few months and is often times accompanied by nausea and vomiting. We also found out that a friend of Shan's once spent three days in the hospital trying to recover from Labyrinthitis. Thankfully I'm no where near that bad and after some TLC from Shan and various people in my neighbor hood, I'm feeling much much better today.
On a side note... Some of you know how frustrated I get by being sick. There's nothing nice about having to stay in bed all day because you don't feel well. Especially when you feel like everything is fine physically and then you attempt to get up, only to become very dizzy and fall back down. I'm headed to LA Tuesday-Thursday to finish a commercial shoot for work and then straight to St. George on Friday for the first ICup race on Sat. It's going to be a busy week with little or no time on the bike, if I can even ride my bike. The old Labyrinthitis put a few kinks into the ultimate plan of events. We'll see how things turn out.
While riding my bike during my lunch brake, I found my self thinking about last weekends events in southern Utah, and how enjoyable it was to slip away for a few days. Not only did I get to test out the new ride on the dirt with some great friends, I was able to spend some quality time with Shan.
Spent a few hours in the saddle on Sat. riding the Zen trail, followed by a few laps on the race course. Earlier that day we attempted to ride Bear Claw Poppy, but were forced to turn around due to the muddy trail conditions. Thanks to BZ for funding the car wash, we hosed off the bikes and continued to ride.
After the ride we all went to dinner and back to our place for some pool, bike talk and tried to consult BZ with his current lady situation.
Sunday, Shan and I caught a 9:00 am Sacrament service, then took the afternoon off. Laid on a hammock in the warm sun and threw the ball to Kashi. Jen and Shannon came back from their ride and joined us for an evening hike near Snow Canyon, with the dogs.
The crew came over again for a BBQ and movie but retired early in anticipation of a long day in the saddle.
Monday morning I hooked up with Jonny and we went back to Bear Claw Poppy. By now the trail was perfect. A little greasy in a few spots but it was so minimal I hardly even noticed. We were enjoying ourselves so much we lapped the trail three times, all at a pretty good pace. It was a great weekend of riding. So good that I only took one chance to snap a photo of the crew.
I'm excited to go back in a little more than a week for the first Icup race. I'm not counting on a blow out performance, but all good things come in time. I've come to learn that for me, it's very important to hit up some of the early races. It reminds my body of what's to come over the next six-seven months and not having done many hard efforts, it's better for my performance later in the season to have a few races under my belt early on.
Spending the weekend in St. George, riding bicycles and enjoying the warm sun. Hooked up with Shannon and Jen, BZ, Bob, Ty, and Jonny, for about 5 hours in the saddle today and loved every minute of it. The new bicycle is riding really nice after Ryan and Kenny at Red Rock Bicycles gave it a little TLC. Thanks boys! More to come later from me but if you're looking for a slightly better description of the day, Shan takes care of it much better than I.
Shan and I spent a few late hours at R&R, finalizing my Valentines Day Dance Party decor when I decided to put Kashi to the test. He caught on pretty quick and learned how to flip the car over so he could continue chasing. Sorry it's a bit long, but I feel that it's quite entertaining.
Seems like I did one of these a few weeks ago. This one has a bit more content though and was sent to my by the Huffs.
10 years ago: I was looking forward to graduating high school and coming to the realization that, If I wanted, I would never have to go to school again. Seemed like a dream come true at the time and then a few years later I found my self in love with college and joyfully anticipating art school.
5 things on my to-do list today: My really busy day 1. Wake up. 2. Eat breakfast. 3. Concept on a few "top secret" projects and make goals to move forward. 4. Ride my bike during lunch. 5. Figure out what I'm going to do for my Valentines box at work. Then execute the plan. It needs to be better than my award winning box from last year. (Note: Things like: Spend time with Shannon, walk the dog, go to work, etc... are all things that I enjoy doing every day, so they don't actually come up on my to-do list.)
Snack I enjoy: Like Melissa and thanks to Shan, I'm going to say Healthy Pop Kettle Corn... I brought some to work today so I can be the one who pops it in the microwave and permeates the entire building with its delicious smell.
Things I would do if I were a billionaire: If I could keep my sanity and mind set of an average joe, I'd love to buy Shan something real nice, and put a little aside for a rainy day. I'd also put a few bucks into an education fund for my children, or at least Kashi's future.
3 of my bad habits: 1. Never enough sleep. 2. Being indecisive. 3. Not taking more time to read and or finish a few good books.
5 places I have lived: 1. The past. 2. The present. 3. The future 4. Farmington Ut. 5. Kaysville Ut.
5 jobs that I have had: Past to present. 1. Miscellaneous yard work and snow removal, to earn $$ for my first mountain bike. 2. Bike shop 3. Ski shop 4. Design internship. 5. Designer, R&R Partners
5 Things people dont know about me: 1. When I grow my hair out, I use a straightening iron. Otherwise I'll look like Annie. It's time for a hair cut. 2. I'm scared of snakes. 3. Every time I enter a grocery store all I think about is breakfast. Cereal, waffles, eggs, pancakes, oatmeal... 4. I have a love for peanut M&Ms, but rarely do I buy them. There are more M&Ms at R&R than I know what to do with, but it's been a while since I've had any. Community jar of M&Ms = germs and contributes to me being sick. That's not acceptable. 5. I have a love/hate relationship with naps. Sometimes there's nothing better than a mid afternoon nap, but most of the time I wake up feeling lazy and unproductive. It's pretty much my own fault. All things in moderation I guess.
With that, I'm going to challenge a random viewer. If you're reading this, here's your opportunity. Take these questions, fill them out and leave a comment with your url if you're up to it. Thanks
I spent most of the day at Bikers Edge, building my new racer. I'm very excited to spend my lunch hour this week testing her out and getting in a few miles. If anyone is interested in tagging along let me know. The bench snow may be a little soft, but City Creek should be nice an packed for some high speed two wheel drifters. Thanks to Ben and Taylor at Scott, for the hookup, Jake for the sweet carbon wheels and Jonny and the rest of the crew at Bikers Edge for feeding me lunch while I used a stand.
Shan and I have been attending our Adoption class every Thursday night, and last night was one to remember. We were fortunate enough to have a visit by a recent birth mother who placed her child last November. She pretty much told the entire story from conception, to how she's dealing with it today. I wish there was a way for me to describe how amazing the process really is, but I still don't even have a clue. What I can explain though is that the further along we get in the process, the more I learn and greater my respect grows for those who have been there before. Whether you've place your child with an adoptive family, you've been an adoptive family or adopted your self, my heart goes out to you and the life and example that you've provided to someone. I've officially been that someone and it means more that I can say. I'm look forward to the day that Shannon and I can become even stronger and move forward in our quest to rase a family.
I spent a good part of my yesterday, skiing at Deer Valley. Defiantly not my first choice when it comes to resorts in Utah, but for the circumstances, it was just right. I tagged along with my father and one of his coworkers, as they entertained the BOSS and his son-in-law from Germany, both of which were very good skiers. They treated us to lunch in the Stein Lodge, for the Skiers Buffet. As we were escorted to our reserved table I took note of our surrounding. Slightly different setting than what I'm use if and when we stop for lunch while skiing. Our table was placed near a large fire place and dressed to perfection. The food selection was simply amazing. I've never had the chance to eat crab for lunch while skiing. Typically, it's a pb&j on a bench outside the lodge or on the lift in-between runs. I stuffed myself with some amazing food and topped it off with a Rice Crispy treat with Froot Loops mixed in. I didn't expect to see that in the buffet, but I guess they need something for the kids and cereal lovers like my self.
I'm posting this because it relates to some thoughts I posted back in December. It wasn't an intentional "reply all", but it is what it is and for that I feel that everyone needs to see it. I did get permission from the sender to post this, I removed all double spaces after the periods, and I may or may not have changed the names and gender of the people involved. Enjoy!
Hey Bobby,
Are we currently looking for a new (replacement) account assistant/runner? The reason I ask is due to our current runner putting instant messaging and myspace over work projects that need to get out. I've asked him repeatedly to get the last of the UTSYOP non-traditional out, but he keeps giving me excuses. Today he showed up 45 minutes late (again) and got right into chatting with his friends online. Does Rupert have a sister or brother? :)
I am sure that there are students in the communications department who would appreciate an opportunity to work in advertising. I can talk to a few people up there.
My sister just sent me these photos of the 5 star hotel she worked on in China. For those of you that don't know, she's a very talented interior designer with more experience under her belt than most who have been in the field twice as long.
