THEY HAD THEIR CHANCE
28 March 2008
I received confirmation today concerning some tires I've been using. I'm very picky about tires. When I find a pair that works for me, I'm pretty faithful to that pair. After some convincing and testimonials by good friends, I decided to try a pair of the No Tubes, Crow.

Everyone had great things to say and I like the low rolling resistance concept, so I decided to give them a shot. After a few rides I was beginning to like the tire setup. They ride really smooth and roll really fast. What I wasn't to keen on was the problems I've had keeping them full of air. Last weekend I finally solved the problem and prepared for another week of testing, because I was still unsure of how much I actually trusted the tires in various conditions. Today during lunch I was riding the shoreline trail near Red Butte Gardens, when I folded the tire almost off the rim. Now, one can expect this to happen once or twice but since this was actually happening on nearly every ride, I can't take that chance any more.
Don't count the tire out though. There are a number of factors that could have played into this and I know that Tolbert and Skid, haven't had this problem with these tires. Regardless... it was the confirmation I needed. I wasn't 100% satisfied and I'm actually excited to bring back the Larsen TT.

SOCIAL HOUR OR TWO
24 March 2008
Like
Primetime, I too don't have any photos of tonight's ride, but that doesn't mean we didn't have a good time. I met up with
Tolbert(who by the way is no longer a 1speedroadwarrior),
Alex G and Dave Welsh, for some BST MTB action. Heading up Dry Creek we ran into
Utah Rider and
Kanyon Kris, then soon after that we discovered that Fox had been bridging the gap and was hot on our tail. The trails are in great shape minus a few snow drifts and mud holes, but you can count on them being gone in short time. As far as MTB Mondays go, most of us plan on meeting at 5:00 every monday evening for some group ride fun. Let me know if you're interested and I'll fill you in on the location.

SEXY SIX and MTB MONDAY
Believe it or not, but last week was one for the history books. It's been a long time since I've actually ridden my bicycle six days in a row, and not to mention that each ride was a quality effort. Sure I've done plenty more than that in my lifetime, mostly back when I would ride on Sundays... but now, Sunday it generally my day off. No riding. An occasional race or short track, but I don't train on Sundays. I'm probably one of those cyclist that puts in the bare minimum that sometimes allows me to just scrape by. When I was younger I could get away with that a little easier, but now, I need to put in the time just like everyone else.

A little imagery from Saturdays ride.
MTB MONDAY! Meet at the shoreline parking lot across from the Zoo. Spread the word!

CREATIVE JUICES
Oh the suspense! Sorry to leave you hanging about R&R's winning evening at the ADDYS. It's been a busy week and updating the blog always seemed to cross my mind at inopportune times, and I'm a little lazy.
As I mentioned, R&R (the agency I work for) won Best Of Show, in the Utah Ad Federation award show, The ADDYS. It was a nice evening spent with Shan, my co-workers, and many others from agencies around Utah. Total, there were 21 agencies that entered work. Everything from print and interactive to TV and radio. R&R came away with eight gold medals and 21 silver and Best Of Show, which by the way, the piece we won Best Of with, actually shocked everyone from our agency. Not that it wasn't good, because it was, and it was spot on for the target audience. It was the fact that a few of our best, or at least we thought, was not even shown or presented with an award. Maybe the judges didn't share our same opinion, or there is a chance that the work wasn't actually viewed by the judges. We may never know. Regardless, it was a great honor to everyone who worked their tails off in making the evening a success. I walked away with my head a little higher and very proud of the creative professionals that I get to work with on a daily basis.

SUPER SATURDAY!
16 March 2008
First tracks in Middle Bowl Cirque makes me happy.

First tracks in Middle Bowl Cirque makes Shan happy too.

Super Saturday continued that evening with the ADDYS. Not only did
R&R win 7 gold medals and 21 silver we also won Best of Show. Talk about REPRESENT! I'll have to collect my thoughts and some art samples for another post. We were up againset some excellent competition from agencies like
Rare Method,
Ricter 7,
Struck, Crowell and many more.. It was a wonderful evening and I'm so happy that Shan was willing to stay out till way past midnight, enjoying the celebration and laid back chatting with people she doesn't know so well.

NOSE WHEELIES
12 March 2008
Well, it's about time. As if someone out there has been sitting on the edge of their seat, waiting for a new post. So with that being said, I'm going to to the very best I can to make each and every post have a little something extra included. Hopefully something a little educational, hopefully something a little more interesting and hopefully something that at least one person will enjoy. If you have any questions, comments or ideas that you'd like to hear or know about, feel free to leave a comment addressing the subject.
Last Saturday, my sister and I hooked up for an afternoon of skiing with my friend Jeremiah, (note: Jeremiah has got to be one of the best telemark skier on the planet) at Snowbasin. It was really good to be back on the boards. After a few southern Utah trips and a TV shoot, it's been a few weeks without skiing. Thankfully there's still plenty of snow left for the season and plenty of days to take advantage. Dropping into Middle Bowl Cirque was fantastic! It took me back a few weeks to my Labyrinthitius episode, only this time it was much better and I never fell over. Visibility: 0, snow condition: crazy awesome. As you can see from the photo, there was at least enough visibility to know that we were standing on the edge.

I was inspired by
Bob and took to the shoreline tail yesterday during lunch. Not realizing it, I even snapped a photo in nearly the same spot.

Tis the season. We now have more light in the evening hours, the resorts are still packed with plenty of snow and the benches are almost dry. Riding through the avenues on my way back to work, my rear tire went flat. I figured I'd ride the pavement all the way back and fix it later. I was rolling it out pretty fast on a rear flat when my tire came off the rim and began to hang up. With my weight forward, I pumped the front brake a few times and safely road a nose wheelie to a complete stop. Too bad no one saw it.
Figgs will be happy to know that I spent the majority of my day today at a photo shoot. I was working with
Erik Ostling, and thankfully, because I don't think I'd have the patients, we werent shooting teens at a dance. Instead it was a product shot that we had full control over. I really enjoy the world of photography and at one point in my college career, I was pursuing a photography degree. I'm happy though that I didn't go that direction because sometimes in life when you make a career out of something you love, the love doesn't always last.
As far as something educational... I'm going to provide you with a link. I found this on
John's site and it's something that means a lot to me as a designer. Some of you don't consider yourself a designer and could probably care less but wheather you know it or not, it can and will have an impact your life.
You choose how you "decorate".

THE PICTURE SHOW
05 March 2008
My work adventure to LA last week was wonderful. Thankfully I wasn't experiencing much vertigo and the pressure change from the flight didn't cause too many problems either. We landed in LA and met with Tony and Kyle our Director and Producer. Over lunch we discussed the final thoughts on the TV spot, how the scenes would be shot and the order in which they would be shot, and previewed the wardrobe selection. Everything seemed to be going well and we were all very optimistic about the shoot the following day.
We then made our way to good old Venice Beach, where we rented a few bikes and cursed up to the Santa Monica pier. Oh how I could spend a long period of time in, near and around the ocean. The warm sun, blue skies, combined with a laid back life style on the beach seem to be calling my name. I don't think I'd have to convince Shan that we should take a trip sometime soon... She's always in for just about any thing.

The following day the shoot went just as we'd planned. Due to a camera adjustment and repositioning, we did get a bit behind and began to run out of day light causing us to rush some of our last shots. But all in all I think it went really well. Our Creative Director and Producer are flying out today (Wednesday) to edit the spot and I can't wait to see the footage. I'll keep you posted as to the date it runs. It felt good seeing every thing come together over the past few weeks and to have the opportunity to attend the shoot here in SLC and in LA. Being the primary writer of the spot, I would hope that this happens all the time, but there's always certain stipulations that play into getting everyone to each shoot that needs to be there.
