Stickers to prove it
Tis the season for riding bikes. The fall is by far my most favorite time to ride. The cool crisp air (coming soon) mix with a kaleidoscope of colors across the Wasatch. The trails are smooth and quiet, covered in spattering of leaves that at times feel as though stuck in some wacky Skittles commercial and around every corner a heroic voice says "Ride the Rainbow."While most are riding the rainbow, others are crossing it up. I too hope to join the CX scene in the very near future but need to work out a few logistics first. Racing cross would be a fitting way to end the season for me. I've never raced cross. I've always found myself on the mountain bike trying to grab what's left of the trails before they're put away for the winter. Can't complain. It's a bit of a toss-up really. Plus, I think SDAY appreciates not having to spend another Sat. at the races. Even though I think she'd enjoy the CX scene a bit more than the typical MTB race. The actions much closer to the crowd and the time spent at the event isn't such the commitment. Either way, I should make it out a few times. The 2010 season has had its share of ups and downs for sure. A rough spring due to a new job and A LOT OF TIME spent as a carpenter building things out. Once we were up and running though, I was able to step out and get some racing in the legs. Mainly the standard stuff, but a few new ones for this old-timer that left me with a few trendy stickers to boast my efforts. The Wasatch Back. I'm no runner that's for sure but for my last of three legs I held down a 6 1/2 min mile average because I was so anxious to get it over with. I had a really good time and enjoyed supporting SDAY more than anything. I'd do it again with her in a heart beat.LOTOJA. Bla bla bla... Actually, as much as I harp on that race and from about ten miles into it till the day after, you'd be hard pressed to get me to do that again, it was a pretty cool event. I know why everyone holds it to such high regard. It's a huge race. Pretty tough for sure and quite the accomplishment for those that finish. I could be convinced to do it on my own bike but NEVER again on a tandem though. Even with good company as Stoker, it just didn't quite make it back on my to-do list. I did come away with a fancy, winners only yellow LOTOJA sticker as well as a white one. They're both for sale if you're interested. The Dirty Dash. What do you know... another running event. At least this one was on the dirt and again, in support of SDAY's running habits. Lots of fun though and a great team to do it with. I'd for sure do this one again. I even used my totally awesome North Wave skin suite. I customized it by cutting out the chamois and trimming off the sleeves right before the race.So there it is. Not only am I a seasoned professional cyclist, but I'm also a "runner" and "real cyclist" to everyone else out there. I have the stickers to prove it.
