Tuesday's training
TUESDAY:Tuesday's rides can vary. Based on Monday's ride and what's in store for Wednesday, can have a slight impact on the time and effort I spend on Tuesday. Generally though, Tuesday's are great to put in a solid 2 hour + effort with mixed intensities. I may throw in a few quick intervals or crank up the intensity on a long climb for a few min. Or a nice, consistent 3-4 hour (or if time permits, 5 hour) ride in zone 2/3 keeps the legs tuned in for the endurance events. These rides are great to try out new food or drink options. Maybe you're a bit unsure how a certain gel will sit in the stomach or if you've picked the right flavor drink mix. Testing them early in the week can help prevent any sort of discomfort issues come Saturday's event. So here's a few examples based on available time for Tuesday's ride.1 Hour: City Creek Canyon in SLC is a great ride if you're short on time. From Memory Grove to the water treatment plant can be pounded out in about 25-30 min if you're cruising. Or take it all the way up in about 45 min. City Creek is nice because it offers enough climb to challenge everyone. It's consistent and smooth with a few steep kicks throughout.1.5-2 Hours: Emigration Canyon is perfect. Again it has great consistency, a few short kicks to build in some intensity and you can work on your form and high end output on the way down. If you have a bit of extra time, I highly recommend detouring through Emigration Oaks neighborhood. It adds a fair amount more climbing to the ride and loops right back down to the main canyon road.2-3 Hours+: If you're planning on a long intense day for Wed. it may be a good idea to spin the legs out for 3 hours or more. Maybe tour Wasatch Blvd. from SLC to Draper and back or head up to Davis County along Main or via the Legacy trail. Find a few hills along the route and stay seated while putting in a solid effort. Focus on your breathing patterns and try to keep it under control. Loosen your upper body and work on new hand positions that help you relax.Wednesday's a good day for another long and even harder effort and you'll want to be dialed in and ready to roll.
