winter on the wasatch
Today's lunch ride was quite enjoyable. Blue skies, clean air in the foot-hills and nicely packed trails. It's times like these when the skiing's not topnotch so what better way to pass the time than time spent on the bicycle. So get out there, let a little air out of the tires and pedal those bicycles. In addition to putting a smile on your face, there are huge benefits to riding in the snow. Just be mindful of those really icy sections deep in the trees.A few quick tips so you don't end up like I did today. It's often times not the best idea to ride it out. I tried and nearly took one to the face. Fortunately, crashing in the snow tends to be a bit easier. The alternatives to going down are clearly seen in the photo above. If you can aim for patch of dirt or some actual snow, go for it. Notice the difference between the trail down the center and on the sides. In this case I could have stayed on the high side and been fine, but I came into it with a bit of speed and before I knew it, it was too late for any sort of deviation. If you can, it's not a bad idea to walk around either. But simply the best advice I can give you is to go out and try it for your self. There's no better time to do so than now.
